Pigment composition and optical rotatory dispersion of chloroplast fractions obtained by detergent action.

چکیده
Plant photosynthesis is considered to consist of photochemical reactions originating from 2 separate pigment systems. Fractionation of the 2 photochemical systems has been demonstrated only recently by detergent treatment of spinach chloroplasts followed by di fferential centri ftugation ( 1, 9). This study shows that the light and heavy fractions obtained by either digitonin or Triton X-100 treatment have a characteristic distribution not only in the chlorophylls but also in the carotenoids. Some correlation between the pigment composition and the absorption and optical-rotatory-dispersion (ORD) spectra is also presented. Chloroplast fragmentation and separation were carried out by the same procedures described previously (1, 9). The chlorophylls and carotenoids

Spiro compounds are of interest due to their interesting conformational features and their structural implications on biological systems. The asymmetric characteristic of the molecule due to the chiral spiro carbon is one of the important criteria of the biological activities. These structures are a widespread structural motif found as key elements of numerous drugs and designed medicinal agent...
متن کاملThe Far Ultraviolet Optical Rotatory Dispersion, Circular Dichroism, and Absorption Spectra of a Myeloma
The optical rotatory properties of a myeloma globulin, immunoglobulin G (IgG), and a normal individual IgG in the far ultraviolet were investigated by rotatory dispersion, circular dichroism, and absorption spectroscopy. The optical rotatory dispersion of the myeloma immunoglobulin displayed two peaks, one at 205 ml* and the other at 210 rnp, and a trough at 228 mp, a lesser one at 230 mp, and ...

متن کاملBuoyant Titration of Bovine Mercaptalbumin Chemically Modified at the Carboxyl Groups
Bovine mercaptalbumin has been modified at the carboxyl groups by means of I-ethyl-3 (3-dimethylisopropyl) carbodiimide and glycine amide. A stable derivative was obtained after modification of 54 groups. The modified protein differed only slightly from the unmodified one with respect to the optical rotatory dispersion parameters ao, bo and ~. This preparation was studied in the analytical ultr...
متن کاملOptical Rotatory Dispersion and Conformation of Polyadenylic and Polyuridylic Acids.
The application of optical rot, atory dispersion to nucleic acids and polynucleotides is fairly recent (l-6). Doty et cd. (2) made a comprehensive study of the optical rotatory dispersion of deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid, and complexes of some homopolynucleotides; their results strongly suggested a close relationship between the optical rotations and the secondary structure of nucleic ...
